Golf Pack Pain and the "Teeter Inversion Table"

I have been playing golf for over 20 years and like most golfer's I have suffered from lower pack pain, this has really effected how I play 18 holes. I'm not a professional golfer just someone that is very passionate about the game of golf, I play socially and over the years golf has played an important part in business with many deals and days out on the green.

Lower back pain is one of the most common and costly diagnoses that the health service manages in the UK on a continuous basis. It is one of the most common reasons to visit a doctor, physical therapist, or chiropractor. The costs for evaluating and treating lower back pain is estimated around 40 million UK pounds a year in the UK.

I have spent many hours with physio therapist's and my doctor trying to improve the pain I have been suffering over the last 7 years. I have had MRI scans, physio, exercise routines, which has highlighted nothing and done very little to improve my back pain.

After over 30 visits to my doctor he carried out some research on the sport of golf and advised I should hang my clubs up!

"It's poor technique and the repetition of hitting balls that can cause an injury to the lower back". Plus the fact most of us sit at a desk for 8-10 hours a day and perhaps sitting in the car for two hrs all start to add to the stress and strain on the lower back, you begin to understand why there is such a high rate of back pain among golfers.

A back injury can result from stress on the spine, usually when the body does not perform the correct sequence during the golf swing.

The Amazing fact: Eight times your body weight is forced through your spine as you make contact with the ball. So if you have poor mechanics combined with a weak back you are more likely to cause yourself a significant amount of injury.

I wasn't going to give up golf, my doctor had seen some information on inversion tables, suggested I go away and have a look. I this stage I was happy to look at anything and certainly would try anything to cure the pain, I had even tried acupuncture with no success.

I started searching for Inversion Tables, came across a site www.teeter-online.co.uk where a guy called Roger Teeter had developed one of these inversion tables over 20 years ago to help people with back pain. After watching the videos reading about how fellow golfers had used one of these inversion tables with great success I was ready to give it a go.

This is how I came across Health Clubs At Home, they are the European distributer for Teeter Inversion Tables, went online www.healthclubsathome.com and had several models to choose from. I wasn't sure what would be best for me, so after a quick telephone call a lovely lady suggested I come and view and try the Inversion Tables. I was about 100 miles from Peterborough where www.healthclubsathome.com.

It was certainly worth the drive as I got to try four types of inversion table, the staff couldn't have done enough and 1 hour later I left with my new Teeter Inversion F7000 table. Once I got home it only took 20 minutes to set it up and I was away. I followed the users guidelines and watched the free DVD. I started my Inversion therapy program slowly as advised in the DVD and the supporting Inversion guides.

Now I use my Inversion table for 20 minutes a day in the comfort of my own home, my back is now 90% of what it used to be. I rarely suffer lower back pain even after a full day of golf doing 18 holes !

Very occasionally I get the pain, after a long day in the car sitting for hours. It doesn't concern me that much as I know once I get on the Inversion table again it wont take long to get me back up to speed with my back feeling good again.

I just hope if you are suffering from back pain you read this as I wanted to share with everyone that is in the same situation that I used to be in suffering from back pain, with no light at the end of it. Try Inversion it has really changed my life !!!

Health Clubs At Home would like to thank John for sharing his experience and discussing how much his back pain effected his life, its certainly not easy to be so open and we know from experience with Inversion Table's many people have suffered for many years before using a Teeter Inversion Table.

The First Degree Fitness range of Fluid Rowers offer a unique and realistic approach to rowing;

Every competitive rower knows the feel of the cube rule, and just how tough it can be to squeeze that tiny extra bit of speed out of the boat in the race to the line.

Why it works

Water has a unique “cube rule” - this means that to go twice as fast requires 8 times the effort! Any increase in the user’s exercise intensity is instantly met by a corresponding increase in resistance. At a given water level this provides a range of resistance.
Patented Fluid Technology further enhances this, providing infinite variation of that range by varying the volume of water against which the user works.
Fluid Technology also supplies the most consistent linear resistance system available. There are no “flat spots”, common to other designs of water and wind resistance mechanisms.
Why settle for second best? Experience the difference that Variable Fluid Resistance makes to your exercise.

The Concept 2 Rowing machine range consists of the Model C and Model D.

One of the main reasons that drive the success of the Indoor Rower is the Performance Monitor, it's extreme accuracy: all the times and distances it shows are comparable between different machines and users. As well as giving you reliably data to chart your progress, this has also led to the development of such things as the Concept Ranking and the sport of indoor rowing. The PM3 displays on an LCD screen information live when you row, as a user you can race against your previous workouts, or against a PaceBoat. Users can choose from a variety of units and display options, including watts, calories, a Bar Chart and a Force Curve. The removable LogCard stores all your data and workouts and allows you to transfer them to different machines or to your computer. With no brake pads to wear out, and no friction mechanism to generate heat, the flywheel motion is smooth, long lasting, and maintenance free. James Cracknell said "Wherever we train we always take a Concept2; it's brilliant. It registers your power output, monitors the distance rowed, all the stuff you need to know really. It's probably about 80-90 per cent similar to rowing a boat on the river."

This also allows you to upload information to various websites to compete all over the world with your time trials and compares how well your workout ranks world wide. So from rowing at home you really can come part of one the most rated froms of exercise.

Commercial Cross Trainer – The Smart Fitness Choice

A commercial cross trainer is a smart choice for any fitness enthusiast - offering a great work out with a decreased risk of injury, no gym should be without one, so why not buy a commercial cross trainer today?

A cross trainer (also known as an elliptical trainer) is a stationary cardiovascular fitness machine that simulates a walking or running motion without the impact and pressure on bones and joints that those activities would normally cause.

Because of this, commercial cross trainers offer users a decreased risk of injury while still providing a thorough workout that can be varied from light intensity to high depending on the requirements of the user.

Commercial Cross Trainer – Low Impact, High intensity

Commercial cross trainers have been a staple of most gyms since the early nineties and are popular amongst a varied cross-section of people – they are the perfect alternative to running for anyone recovering from an injury or with bone and joint pain.

Older people who may be put off by the exertion on joints and bones that a treadmill will cause can still get that same intensity of workout but can do so in a more gentle way without the risk of any form of long term damage.

For serious athletes in training, commercial cross trainers are also a great way to break up your running programme. Interspersing a session on the cross trainer with your usual running allows you a chance to recover from any aches or pains without losing a training session.

Most commercial cross trainers work the user’s upper and lower body simultaneously and are designed to provide a cardiovascular workout of variable intensity. Some models can also be adjusted to vary the incline, resistance and stride length to really give you an intensive, varied cardiovascular workout.

Research studies have shown that cross trainers can be a highly effective way of burning calories fast. As a large number of muscle groups are exercised simultaneously during the workout a more intense form of exercise is achieved in a shorter space of time than would occur with other forms of exercise.

Further studies have also suggested that by the user letting go of the hand grips of the commercial cross trainer that they can help to develop their motor skills. Through this position, the core muscles of the body are held in constant tension which helps promote better posture and improved balance.

Senior Citizens ‘Playground’ Brings Commercial Gym Equipment to the Park

Older people in west London have been provided with a specially-designed fitness centre, taking the principles of commercial gym equipment and adapting it to the older user.

Senior Citizens in London are toning up with the capital’s first ever "pensioners' playground" designed to help older people get regular exercise. The Hyde Park “playground” is in fact a collection of six pieces of specially-designed machines, modelled on commercial gym equipment, modified to make it weatherproof and imported from Denmark – where such parks are commonplace.

The variants on the more heavy-duty commercial gym equipment include a senior citizens’ version of an exercise bike, cross trainer, a flex wheel and foot wheel to exercise arms and hips, a machine to stretch the legs and sit-up bench.

The novel idea – at least for the UK – was proposed by the local Knightsbridge Association. Spokeswoman Madeline Elsdon told the London Evening Standard newspaper that the association suggested the idea after Westminster City allocated funding to various local projects.

“This is a place for people of my age to get some exercise in the fresh air,” Ms Elsdon said.

"We've been overwhelmed by the number of people who have been showing an interest. There are so few facilities for older people in parks."

However, it is not just senior citizens that can benefit from regular stint at their very own gym, thanks to the growing number of ways to obtain an affordable “home gym.”

A recent investigation by the Independent newspaper found a wide range of commercial gym equipment designed both for home use and to suit a wide range of budgets. From simple items such as dumbbells, weights and steppers to rowing machines and exercise bikes, there are many items of equipment that can be obtained far more cheaply than you might think, especially if bought second-hand.

It even examined the many ways in which a home gym can be made aethetically pleasing, quoting design guru Philippe Starck, who made the case for stylish commercial gym equipment with typical flamboyance.

"Life is an impossibility carried out," he told the newspaper. "Better perpetuate it. For this, we have to love life, to love ourselves at least 15 minutes per day. At home, at work. A few exercises and a good posture – elegant, obviously."

Health Cubs at Home – Europe’s foremost suppliers of pre-owned fitness and gym equipment

HOW TO SELECT THE PROPER SEAT HIEGHT FOR YOU ON YOUR BIKE!

Continuing ths exercise series on Spin bike exercise and enjoyment, probably the most iportant thing is the proper seat hieght for you. If the seat is too low, you won¹t be able to get enough leg extension on the downstroke and your legs will tire out faster. If it's too high, you'll be straining to reach and might injure yourself. Here's a good rule to follow: Your upstroke knee should never exceed hip level, while your downstroke knee should be about 85 percent straight. And don't grip the handlebars too tightly, as this will increase the tension in your neck and shoulders.
